In early 2010 my grandpa gave me a Macbook Pro as a gift when my old HP laptop died out on me. I was in the middle of a semester in school and desperately needed a personal computer because I worked and went to school full-time.
Me and my Macbook have been through a lot. Last year I had to get a new hard drive and battery. I’ve replaced the cable that recognizes the start up, and I’ve added more RAM.
I figured with all of the money I’ve invested in my computer, it’s a much better system than the original. The only thing that bothered me was the wear and tear. I didn’t protect it like I should have and it endured its fair share of scratches and minor dents.
But, there is no way I was going to give up my baby, so I decided to customize my Macbook Pro and give it a makeover.
It’s embarrassing, but I’ll show you my before picture. It makes me cringe.
I started by wiping my entire Macbook down with a microfiber cloth. On the outside of the computer, I used an alcohol wipe to get rid of the dirt. I then took a can of air and sprayed the keyboard to get rid of dust and debris.
I’m pretty crafty and like pretty things, so after cleaning my computer, I decided to personalize it.
Colorful Small Sprinkles Vinyl (for outside)
Keyboard Decal Stickers (similar, I think they are out of the one I have)
After my supplies came in the mail, I started with the outside decal (make sure you follow all instructions per manufacturer to prevent bubbles).
I wiped down the keyboard again and added the inspirational saying. I wanted to add it last, but I was anxious to look at it, lol.
I added the keyboard keys stickers last because it would take the longest (you have to apply each sticker individually), and I wanted to make sure I didn’t make a mistake. You can get creative with your layout too, I didn’t add all of the stickers because I wanted to keep a few of my keys black.
I’m really happy with my results. It gives my computer an entirely new look, and it matches my personality.
Etsy has a variety of shops to find super cute computer decorations just search “laptop decal,” “computer decoration,” etc. You’d be amazed at how much is out there.
If you decide to decorate your laptop let me know. I can’t wait to see how your project turns out.
